Children of the Bush Henry Lawson Books

Children of the Bush By Henry Lawson
Children of the Bush Henry Lawson Books
Just out of personal interest I've been reading quite a lot of Australian history (non-fiction), and decided to read some of the popular fiction of the past, back ground setting, as it were. In American terms I can see these stories arriving every week in a magazine delivered to people of a nostalgic nature, a bit like the Saturday Evening Post. Most have a message of doing the best you can with what you've got in the bush and on the road, being a bit kind (without losing a mischievous streak), and the value of tenacity. Interesting to compare them to the light Western fiction of my childhood, with the rugged character, a tough loner, fast with a gun cleaning up the town and all. As opposed to having a "bushmate" that traveled with you - not always a friendly relationship- and would help each other travel and find work.Product details

Children of the Bush Henry Lawson Books Reviews
The story of the people of the bush is enchanting. It's a pity that none of these books are available in book shops. Our kids don't get a chance to read them.
Having not read much of Lawson since my early adolescence, I decided it was time to reacquaint myself with him, partly to get up to speed for teaching secondary English now that I'm back in Oz.
What a delight! I bought 4 collections of Lawson at the same time and read them back-to-back.
Lawson has a sensitive pen, whether delivering pathos in the Drover's Wife, humour in The Loaded Dog, or his delightful power of characterisation in the numerous other stories.
